Brian here - Michelle and baby are doing great! But before we introduce the newest addition to the Bonjour clan, a few funny things led up to the big event this morning.
First of all, for those of you who know Michelle, you know how passionate she is about not finding out the sex of the baby. So at 16 weeks, we head to the OB for our routine first sonogram to check for basic baby health and growth. The entire office is extremely careful making sure nobody spills the beans whether it's a boy or girl... they don't even put in the chart what the sex is, so the doctor doesn't even know until he or she pops out. Anyway... mid sonogram, the sonogram tech says something like this: "baby looks great.. there's the spine... there's the feet... there's
her head... there's the heart beating... etc." I look straight at Michelle hoping she missed it, but she didn't. Michelle was devastated and we both assumed that the sonogram tech accidentally spilled the beans. We're having a girl.
Over time, Michelle convinces herself that the sonogram tech may have been using "her" generically, much like a guy might use "him" generically. I, however, am still 100% positive that the 17 year sonogram tech had really screwed up and completely ruined what my wife calls "the only true surprise left in life." No doubt about it, it's a girl.
Last week, the family baby game goes around where everyone guesses the sex, weight, length, etc. Even though Michelle has convinced herself there's a chance it could be a boy, she couldn't help but put Girl as her guess. I am still 100% sure it is a girl.
Then the evening before delivery date, we head to PF Changs for dinner. Following dinner we are excited to open our fortune cookies. Well, PF Changs planted a loaded fortune for Michelle that said "It's a Boy!" It takes us all a second to realize it was a joke... we all get a good laugh, very well done PF Changs. Then I open my fortune cookie. One side has a typical non-fortune about being nice to people or something. But the other side lists an English word and how to spell it in Chinese. Our table had words like "cookie", "river", and "smile." Well my fortune cookie word was... "Boy." Ha. Unbelievable. Everyone thinks this is funny, but I only think these are cruel jokes since we already know it is 100% a girl.
So I spent a total of 3 minutes discussing boy names with Michelle since the sonogram. Why would I... it's a girl. Same as last time, the routine is: Dr Carter does the c-section, pulls the baby out, and let's me look and tell Michelle if it's a boy or girl. When Dr Carter pulls out a screaming healthy baby I casually glance and get ready to tell Michelle that it's a girl. BUT WAIT... is that a twig and berries!?!?!? I was so blown away that I said: "YESSSSS, IT'S A BOY... is that right Dr Carter???"
Hilarious. We then spent the next couple hours talking about boy names. Because it was 100% a girl.
